This is hands down the number one question I get from clients. This is the question I hear the most—yet the more you experience Reiki, the more it feels like asking if water knows how to flow 🙂

First and foremost, it’s important to understand that Reiki is not meant to replace any medication, therapy, or medical advice from your doctor. Reiki supports your body, mind, and emotions in returning to balance. It complements other treatments by accelerating your body’s natural healing process -but it’s not like taking two Panadol for a headache. Instead, Reiki addresses the root causes and helps manage pain in a more holistic way.

What I find most amazing about Reiki is that you don’t have to worry about how the healing will unfold or where it will begin – your body already knows. Reiki flows to what is ready to shift first, much like peeling back the layers of an onion. Often, the healing starts in places we least expect, not necessarily where we think the problem is or what we assume needs to be addressed first.

For example, two people may both come in because they’re feeling stressed. But their healing journeys can look completely different and unfold at different paces, simply because the root causes of their stress aren’t the same. After all, we all live very different lives!

Let me share two client stories that illustrate this:

Client A came in due to overwhelming stress. After just a few sessions, she told me she had started “sleeping like a baby.” She hadn’t realized how poor her sleep quality had been, or that better rest was exactly what her body needed to handle stress more effectively.

Client B, on the other hand, noticed a shift in his emotional reactions at work. When things didn’t go as planned, he found himself giving clear instructions without getting frustrated or emotionally charged—something he hadn’t realized was even affecting him before.

As Reiki practitioners, we simply serve as a channel for Reiki to flow. The real healing? That comes from within our clients—uniquely, in their own time, and in their own way.

Healing doesn’t mean life stops being messy. Stressful situations and chaos will still happen—that’s just life. But true healing means being able to face those curveballs with more clarity, grace, and wisdom.

And that’s where Reiki can be a beautiful, supportive tool for you.
